"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it." Psalm 96:11
There are many ways to work with God and care for creation! As a church, we want to put more of our focus on this particular command from God. We’re inviting all of you to participate in ways that are relevant to your life and that cause a cultivation of deeper connection with creation.
In scripture, we find many verses that encourage us in our creation care efforts:
- The Creator calls upon us to care for all that has been and will be created in God (Genesis 2:15, Numbers 35:33-34).
- This challenge to love creation is something that God’s people have wrestled with throughout scripture. When we are most aligned with God, the rest of creation is healthy and rejoices (2 Chronicles 7:13-14); and when humans have turned away from God, the land becomes defiled and polluted (Jeremiah 12, Hosea 4:1-3).
- Paul is clear that the whole of creation is eager for the fruits of redemption through the work of Jesus and those reconciled in him (Romans 8, Colossians 1:15-20, Ephesians 1:7-10).
We know that making more creation-friendly choices can be overwhelming and sometimes guilt-inducing. Our intention, as always, is to move with grace, love, and compassion. It’s impossible for all of our choices and actions to be perfect, but it’s easy for our choices and actions to be better. We hope you will consider joining us as we journey, abiding in the Spirit of God, towards a more right relationship with creation.
